Beyond the academic programme, SUISS offers a vibrant cultural and social calendar designed to enrich the student experience. Participants can enjoy a wide range of events, including art talks, film screenings, festival performances, traditional ceilidh dances, and exclusive readings by contemporary Scottish authors.

Edinburgh—the world’s first UNESCO City of Literature—is a city steeped in literary heritage and home to renowned writers such as Maggie O’Farrell, Ian Rankin, Irvine Welsh, and Alexander McCall Smith. Each year, around 4 million visitors flock to Scotland’s capital, many drawn by the Edinburgh International Book Festival, celebrated as “the largest public celebration of the written word in the world.” Others come simply to explore this literary city, with its cobbled streets, atmospheric closes, and rich cultural offerings.

SUISS takes place during Edinburgh’s world-famous festival season, including the Royal Edinburgh Military Tattoo, the Edinburgh International Festival, and the Edinburgh Festival Fringe—all set against the stunning backdrop of Arthur’s Seat and the iconic Edinburgh Castle.
